A
little about your hosts.
|
Tyler, Sarah, Isabella, Scott and
Kokoa would like to welcome you into their home. Tyler and
Sarah met at the University of Alaska Juneau before they
started their life together while teaching in the rural Alaska
community
of Selawik. After four years of teaching they decided to
start a family in Sitka. Isabella was born 2 years after returning
to Sitka and on her third birthday she got a
baby
brother.
Tyler was born and raised in Sitka and enjoys the outdoors.
He spends many days out in the boat fishing and exploring
the rich mining history of southeast Alaska. Tyler has keep
his teaching certificate, but now designs and builds webpages,
works for a construction company and travels frequently throughout
the year to pursue his newest passion of photography.
Sarah was raised in Gustavus (Glacier Bay) and spent many
years working for the Glacier Bay National Park Service.
Her grand parents homesteaded in Gustavus and her parents
still call Gustavus their home. Sarah currently teachers
first grade, but enjoys any free time playing with Isabella.
Is
is due in April with our second baby. Her hobbies include
scrapbooking, jogging, taking Kokoa for walks (most commonly
in Totem Park), and baking.
Isabella Renee Eddy was born on April 21st, 2004. She is
too young to be making beds at the inn, but joins us on many
walks that we take with our guests.
Kokoa is a Jack Russell with a passion for fish! She was
born in Tacoma, WA and spent the first few years of her life
in Arctic Alaska with Tyler and Sarah. She adores people
and will jump at the chance to go for a walk or down to the
beach. Just mention either of those two activities and she
will hold you to your word, barking and jumping until she
gets her way! Kokoa lives in the bed and breakfast with
Tyler, Sarah, Isabella and Scott.

Where
to find your hosts?
Eddystone is our home and where we are often found when we are not
at work. Tyler works for a construction company and Sarah is a first
grade teacher. Eddystone property is very large with lots
of wild berries and other indigenous plants.
Sitka Pine, Spruce, Cedar and Hemlock trees
tower
tall providing a place for eagles to land. Berry picking in August,
yard work in spring and fire wood cutting in the fall provide us with
lots of time to enjoy out home.

Why
is it named Eddystone?
|
Eddystone
is a name of a rock near Ketchikan and a lighthouse in the
English Channel. My father gave our home the nickname of Eddystone
since our last name is Eddy and our home was located on a peninsula
made completely of rock (stone). Eddystone has been our family
home since I was 8 years old. We plan on raising our family
here while opening our home to guests.

 |
| Who is Kokoa? |
|
Kokoa is a Jack Russell that
was born in Tacoma and raised in arctic Alaska.
She loves to dig and chase fish, but due to
her size we have to keep a close eye on her
so that she does not get picked up by an eagle.

Where is Janet?
Janet Eddy is Tyler's mother and the founder
of Eddystone Inn and Bed and Breakfast. She lives in Sitka
at the bed and breakfast during the winter months and visits
often in the summer. She was raised in Petersburg, Alaska and
enjoys telling early Alaskan stories to guests. Many of our
guests might speak with her on the phone or may have met her
on a previous stay at Eddystone and always ask, where is Janet?

Great Alaska Husky Ranch?
Sarah’s mother, Marilyn Trump, started the Great
Alaska Husky Ranch which is located in Gustavus. It is strictly
non-profit, running solely on donations. Marilyn and her husband
Chris own and care for twelve huskies. They have constructed
a track on their property for the dogs to mush through (pulling
a wheeled sled) and hold scheduled demonstrations in the summer
months. If you include Gustavus in your Alaska travels it is
well worth visiting! learn
